CMI offers custom waterjet cutting. Whether you need prototypes, production, or limited runs, you can rely on CMI’s ultimate precision and craftsmanship to cut virtually any shape with no heat affected zones or mechanical stress.
Our facility operates a Model 80X JetMachining Center purchased directly from OMAX Corporation. The system features an 80″ x 160″ working area, which easily fits a 6′ by 12′ sheet of material. The Model 80X is an environmentally “green” machine; it uses high quality, natural garnet abrasive and water. Waterjet cutting follows a closed-loop process where all the water used for cutting is recycled in the process itself. Waterjet cutting does not use or produce any noxious fumes, liquids, or oils in the cutting process.
Our Model 80X uses OMAX’s MAKE software for maximum cutting efficiency. MAKE allows us to have precise control of the jet stream, which produces extraordinary precision with cutting tolerances as close as +/- .003. This system leaves behind a smooth edge and no visible stains, which greatly reduces secondary operations.
Because Waterjet machining is a cold cutting process, it creates no heat-affected zones (HAZ). It doesn’t change the material properties or leave heat-hardened edges, which makes it perfect for cutting heat sensitive materials such as plastics and rubbers.
CMI is set up to cut many different types of material with thicknesses up to five inches. Reflective materials, such as brass, copper and aluminum, can be cut by the Waterjet without a problem. The following is a partial list of materials CMI can cut:
Metals: Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Brass, Bronze Copper, Mild Steel, Lead, Nickel Alloys, Titanium
Non-Metals: Carbon Fiber, Ceramics, Plastics, Laminates, Stone, Wood, Foams, Rubber, PFTE
If the material you need to cut is not listed above, please contact us. You can send us a drawing (DXF or DWG) and we will provide you with a quote.
