Onion Peeler

The Peeling Process:

Onions are loaded into the in-feed hopper. From there, they roll into the scoring section, where a paddle belt guides them over the scoring blades. As the onions cross, the blades lightly cut their outer skins.

From the scoring section, the onions tumble down a small ramp into the hopper of the incline conveyor, which loads them onto the holders. An operator then repositions the onions so that their tops and tails are perpendicular to the holders.

Next, the holders carry the onions through the onion guides. As each onion passes through, the blades adjust to its specific size to trim away the top and tail.

After the tops and tails are removed, the onions fall onto a pair of augers that transport them through the air tunnel. There, air tubes blow the loosened skin off the onions from both above and below. The air pressure must be adjusted as needed to ensure the loose skin is completely removed.

Finally, the onions exit the peeler from the air tunnel.
